A 19-year-old Michigan student has Down Syndrome is urging the Michigan High School Athletic Association to provide waivers for students with disabilities whole athletic careers are delayed

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A 19-year-old with Down syndrome took his case for high school sports eligibility to state lawmakers Wednesday, arguing that Michigan should join a growing number of states that consider age-limit exemptions for student athletes whose playing careers are delayed because of disabilities.

Get involved with Disability Mentoring Day

Disability Mentoring Day (DMD) program connects nearly 13,000 students and job seekers with disabilities to thousands of employers each year. The 2011 events took place in over 200 locations across the country. DMD, held the third Wednesday in October, promotes career development through hands-on programs, job shadowing, and ongoing mentoring. This experience has helped thousands of past participants develop lasting relationships and secure internships or jobs.
